Position Title: International Classroom Connection (ICC) Intern

The International Classroom Connection (ICC) arranges for international students, scholars and community members to meet with Minnesota elementary and secondary school students in their classrooms to share culture, personal perspectives and ideas.

Supervisor: International Classroom Connection Program Manager

Responsibilities/Duties:
To assist with ICC coordination and administration in the following capacity:

  • Phone, fax and e-mail contact with international speakers and classroom teachers; assist with projects related to World Cultures Day events; filling requests for speakers and confirming arrangements.
  • Assist with training workshops by mailing announcements, preparing materials, registration and physical set-up
  • General clerical and administrative assistance with mailings, making photocopies, data entry, word processing; Power Point and program reports.
  • Escorting international speakers to classroom presentations; Publicizing MIC at on-campus events. (Optional)

Note: ICC Internships for summer comprise generalized program projects since MIC does not schedule presentations or training workshops during the summer.

Qualifications:

The ICC program is fast-paced and requires significant materials preparation.  In order to benefit most from an ICC internship, interns are encouraged to attend the World Culture Days produced by ICC program.  To be successful, applicants must possess:

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills; the intern must be able to interact with both native and non-native speakers of English
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently
  • Background or course work in education, communication, international relations or languages is preferred
