Since the Great Decisions program is designed to encourage discussion, speakers work with group leaders to allow time for questions and discussion, creating an environment that encourages the respectful exchange of opinions and perspectives.
– is aware of the nonpartisan nature of MIC. As a nonpartisan organization, MIC encourages a variety of points of view and does not endorse one opinion over another. MIC does not direct speakers what to say but asks that they delineate perspectives which are personal.
– clarifies meeting information with the group leader/contact person. The speaker communicates with the group leaders to ensure clarity about the length of the presentation, location, availability of audio-visual equipment and procedures for moderating the discussion.
– refrains from promoting a particular company or personal business interest. Since MIC is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization, MIC requests that Great Decisions speakers refrain from direct promotion or fundraising for any other organization or business interests during the formal program. Such exchange of information is appropriate after the presentation, if attendees inquire.
– recognizes MIC as a partner in Great Decisions. As appropriate, the speaker informs the audience of other opportunities available through MIC. It is anticipated that Great Decisions speakers are members of MIC and aware of upcoming programs.
