MIC is hosting its first World Cultures Day at Northeast Middle School in Northeast Minneapolis. Join us for this wonderful intercultural event together with teachers, neighborhood residents and parents. This is the last World Cultures Day of the current academic year.

A World Cultures Day (WCD) is a school-wide and interactive event that brings the world directly to children, providing both teachers and students an opportunity to meet in person and learn from natives of different countries. During the typical WCD you share your culture with three different classes of students. You will receive a stipend, free transportation, and lunch.

Creek Valley Elementary hosted its first World Cultures Day only this past year. The teachers were so impressed with the impact of international speakers on the knowledge and spirit of the students that they'd like to offer a deeper cultural experience of Latin American cultures to the 4th grade Spanish students. In addition to general cultural topic areas, the teachers would like you to focus on the following:

- Typical food – students know how to say “Yo como” as well as some basic food vocabulary
- Traditional and modern clothing – students want to know how to say “Yo llevo” as well as learn some basic clothing vocabulary, popular activities/sports/hobbies – students want to know how to say “Me gusta” as well as learn some basic action verbs.

Kindergarten students at Lincoln Elementary come from many different parts of the world. They are working hard to learn from each other, and they also want to hear from you about your language, traditions, customs, and how you manage to integrate all the above while living in a different country. The teacher is hoping to show the students a way to accepting the differences among themselves and understanding other cultures.
