Minnesota International Center - A World Affairs Council

International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP)

The International Visitor Leadership Program is a medium for professional and cultural exchange amongst emerging leaders. The majority of MIC’s participants come to Minnesota under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State. As part of a national program lasting 3 weeks, visitors are typically here for 3-4 days and MIC arranges their schedule to include such events as professional meetings, cultural activities and dinner hosting.

“Each time you welcome a foreign visitor in the U.S., each time you spend time working on a program, each time you offer hospitality for lunch or for more, you don’t waste your time. You never waste your time...”

The IVLP is designed to build understanding between the U.S. and other countries through carefully planned visits that reflect the participants’ professional interests and support U.S. foreign policy goals.

“…What is at stake with all these exchange programs is a battle against intolerance, a battle for brotherhood among people, a battle for mutual understanding, and where citizen diplomacy appears- it’s a powerful force in a turbulent world.”

– Mr. Pascal Dupeyrat
   Secretary General, Cercle Jefferson
   IVLP participant from France, 2000
