How can I get involved?
MIC offers a variety of ways. In addition to attending world affairs forums and discussions, members may host international guests and students for an in-home dinner, escort professional visitors (who are guests of the U.S. State Department) to appointments, assist at the MIC office or with events, beautify the MIC grounds, or promote membership.
For more details, see Positions for volunteer descriptions.
Is orientation required?
Volunteers who drive and escort international speakers to schools are asked to attend a workshop in advance, and orientation meetings are held for interns. Orientation for other positions is done individually or in small groups.
Does volunteering have to be done at the MIC office?
Most volunteering is done outside the MIC office, such as hosting international visitors and students in your home, escorting visitors to appointments in the community and promoting membership. Internships, gardening and office assistance take place directly at the MIC office.
What are the benefits of volunteering?
Volunteers are an integral part of fulfilling MIC’s mission to inspire our community to understand global issues and cultures in an ever changing world. Whether volunteers assist behind the scenes or through direct interaction with international students and guests, they find this experience extremely rewarding and worthwhile. Many volunteers also use their experience with MIC to build their résumés.
